Volume

I know, it’s still June, and we have a month and a half before the Fall semester starts, but I have a feeling that the next six weeks will fly by. So I’ve been thinking about it, and have determined that the one word theme to focus on is volume.

In order to become good at something, it seems like, in addition to studying and learning how to do the something, one needs to do it a bunch. The saying is that practice makes perfect.

Since I’ve given up the leadership of the Destino team based in San Antonio in order to focus on the beginning development of a network of Christian professors in South Texas, my work over the next year won’t be terribly complicated. That isn’t to say that it will be easy. I don’t think it will. But I am glad that my goal is simple: have as many meaningful conversations with Christian professors as I can. I will need to find them and create the opportunities for conversations, and I don’t think that will be an easy task. But it’s not really complicated. The goal is volume.

That also applies to other priorities I have.

Like miles on the bike. It’s a road bike with one gear. I can’t go very fast. So I can’t much ride with others. But I can get out on the road, and go. Often. Not every day, but several rides a week. I need to that for basic fitness. And it is good for thinking and praying.

Another is posting here in Muckleroy Base Camp. The more posts I publish, the clearer my thinking will be, and the better I will be at communicating in a way that makes sense.

Other things that I just want to do a bunch are:

Complimenting my kids

Taking Heather on fun dates

Meaningful conversations with those who are close
