Pennies
Woke up looking back and then looking forward. Seems like that’s a pretty normal start to my days. But this morning it was the idea of pennies.
Back when I was a boy, the idea was presented that if I’ll just take care of the pennies, then the dollars would take care of themselves. Doesn’t make sense, but then it does. And not just about money, which is obvious, or should be. But it’s about everything. Focus on doing the simple things right. Make your bed. Drink plenty of water.
And then it hit me… it was as if was God was saying, “You take care of the pennies, and I’ll take care of the rest.”
Because, the truth is, we don’t live in a world of principles. We live in a world where God actively upholds and intimately directs. And it strikes me that there is a big difference in those worlds. In the one, we’re in control. In the other, God is in control. In the one, I trust in me, and the principles. In the other, I trust in God. In the world where I’m in control, I’ll believe and behave one way. But in the world where God is in control, I’ll believe and behave a different way.
The world can only be one way…
And we don’t get to choose which one we live in. But we do get to choose if our lives tell the truth about who is in control, or a lie.
