ACLS

Today was a long day. Long and wonderful. Rece’s first Atascosa County Livestock Show. We were up bathing Junior at 5 and had him loaded on the trailer by 5:30. So many contestants. All did great. Junior didn’t place in his class and Rece didn’t place in showmanship. Didn’t expect to.

I told him before he showed that the season was already successful. We accomplished the goal. Learn the process, get through the first season, and have fun together. Check, check, and check.

I love how supportive everyone was. Experienced parents were so helpful all year long.

I love how the kids tuck their shirts in and look people in the eyes while shaking hands with fellow competitors and judges and say thank you. I love how the judge shook Rece’s hand and said, “Good job, young man.”

I love how the kids play in the dirt, clean themselves up, take care of their animals, and put themselves out there. It’s nerve racking. Many of them are scared to death. Rece did not want Junior getting away and running wild around the ring. Some kids had that happen. Some looked like they wanted to cry. Some just smiled and shifted into lamb wranglers.

Reminds me of Teddy Roosevelt’s Man in the Arena.

I’m so very proud of Rece
