Bedrock Blessings

Life is good.

It’s easy to not think of that. Days are full. Schedules are tight. There are more things to do than we can do. And even more things that we want to do but can’t figure out how. Every new day brings new problems. Often new problems come quicker than we can keep up with. The schedule get’s out of whack and the sink doesn’t drain. It’s always something.

And yet our lives are full of little blessings. We can see them, often embedded in the simple, everyday things of life, if we will take the time to look.

Here are a just a few that I have noticed over the last couple of days…

The feel of the dog laying on your feet under the desk.

A hot cup of coffee.

The look in the eyes of a friend across the table when you share something that’s been on your heart.

The empty shotgun shells littering the bed of the pickup that you don’t want to clean out because every time you see them you are reminded of the afternoon in the pasture breaking clays with your sons.

Kittens rubbing against your legs while you’re feeding the lamb. The feeling that comes when you sit down in the barn just to pause for a second after a busy day and out of nowhere one of those kittens jumps up onto your lap. Or the way the cows coming to the fence to see if you have some cubes for them makes you feel put together.

A sweet text from your daughter.

It’s simple things like these that I’ve come to think of as bedrock blessings.
