Lamb Wisdom

I was out chatting with Junior the other day. He had just gotten help getting unstuck from the fence. Somehow he had managed to get his head completely through a gap down low just off the ground but couldn’t get it back out. Though I had been the one to help him and really needed no explanation, he wanted to talk about it. I think he might have been a little embarrassed. Our talk began centered on the fence incident, as you might expect, but then branched off onto other points.

Junior is only a four month old Medium Wool Lamb, so I don’t really expect him to have everything figured out. But he did offer some pretty sound seeming bits of wisdom. I thought I’d pass some of them along…

If you’re going to get stuck, make sure you’re in the shade, and that there aren’t any fire ants around.

The grass might be greener on the other side of the fence, but it’s on the other side of the fence.

It’s one thing to fall into a mud hole and a quite another to walk into one a-purpose.

Loneliness is real. Dogs might be man’s best friend, but they’ll also work in a pinch for lambs. If you know someone is often all alone, go see them. Or call, Or something. It’s not that hard and it does a world of good. It might even be fun.

Clean, fresh water is important. What we put into our bodies is important.

Climbing is good for lambs and boys both.

Relationships are built on trust, which is often hard earned. Just like that dog and that boy, lambs want to trust you. But don’t take this for granted or get ahead of yourself.

Show lambs are just lambs, but mighty particular care seems to go into their nutrition. Seems like that should be true for people too.

It’s good to keep your lamb’s pen cleaned out…

When show time comes, it ain’t all up to the lamb.

Don’t look down on help. Lambs can’t do without it. People can’t either.

Come to think of it, lambs and people have quite a bit in common.
