Some stuff I’m grateful for

There’s a bunch of things that we could complain about. Often what gets our goat so much is stuff that we can’t really do anything about. I think there’s a bit of the complainer in all of us. Even me :).

There’s also a bunch to be grateful for. I started a little list of things that come to mind…

Family. I am grateful knowing that I’m connected to a network of people who help explain where I came from and who’s gone before.

Meaningful work. Work is good and something we were created to do. When approached rightly, I believe most jobs can be meaningful. I guess what I’m grateful for includes the ability to work, that I actually have a good job that I really enjoy and can grow with. It’s work that is a clear calling and I know will last longer than me. It’s eternal work.

Partners in the mission. Our calling and mission is bigger than we could ever accomplish alone. We love that that we are supported in our work by a growing group of friends.

The sun on my face in the morning. It reminds me that I am alive and all is well. This is where I think about fresh starts and new beginnings. I also love the setting sun shining in my eyes. It like it’s washing everything that doesn’t matter away. All that is left is what’s important.

Knowing that I have been seated with God in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Knowing that I am not alone, and never will be. And that I have a purpose, and a good shepherd.

A dog waiting by the door when I’m gone. The feeling that can’t be put into words but comes when I look down and realized that she is laying on my feel. I love that, and am grateful for it.

The feeling that comes from knowing that Heather is near and in it with me.

Kids who want to tell me about something that has happened.

The ability to go on long bike rides. There is this hard to pin down feeling that comes after about 20 minutes in the saddle when the body is warmed up and the road stretches out ahead.

The scriptures to read and study. It’s how we know God, ourselves, what separates us, and what brings us back together again.

I could go on and on… and list the Monday night Bible Study that I am a part of, and Junior the lamb, and organizations like 4H that creates the opportunity and structure to allow me to doing something cool with my son.

But I’ll stop there, for now. Thanks for listening and sharing some
