The pursuit of what is most important

We believe that people have a natural urge to explore – this constant pull to discover what’s around the next bend or over the next rise.

At the same time, we crave roots – the utterly familiar where we rest, recover, dream, and plan… in an atmosphere of well-being, acceptance, and grace… where we are known and loved, without requirement and condition, free of stress, worry, and anxiety.

Muckleroy Base Camp is about the pursuit of what is most important, celebrating meaningful moments, and embarking on epic journeys.

Fresh starts and new beginnings

The pursuit of what is most important…

That simple idea captivates me.

At any given time, if I can slow down enough, get quiet enough, and get far enough away from advertising for long enough, I can get a pretty clear idea of what is most important. Because what is most important changes. Or does it? I guess at a certain level, what is most important doesn’t change. Like the primacy of my relationships with God, my wife, my kids, others. Or my work with Cru. My mission. My responsibilities. Honesty. Integrity. But within those, season to season, day to day, moment to moment, the most important things to focus on changes. And in order to recognize those changes, our heads need to be somewhere between the clouds and the weeds. And our hearts need to be in tune to God’s leading and direction. So my pursuit is to know at all times what is most important, and what is the most important ways for me to spend my time. And that can change

And sometimes, that pursuit leads us to a new priority. And sometimes, that new priority is big enough that it actually becomes the catalyst that ushers in a new season. A time for a fresh start and a new beginning. And a new epic journey to embark on. And this time for Heather and me and Rece and our family, that sometime is now. After homeschooling for 16 years and thinking we were done when Sadie graduated and headed off to college, Heather and I have decided that the best thing for Rece is to pull him from his school and let him be homeschooled too.

This new season will require some pretty big changes. That’s hard. And maybe scary. But it’s what’s best for Rece. And therefore, it’s what’s most important for me. And it will be an epic journey. An epic adventure.
